I recently bought a 61 and I do not know what size the motor is in it. I checked the vin and it refers to a 223 but it now has a v8. The floor has been cut out over the transmission (standard) and a piece from a different truck was sloppily put in. The valve covers have 2 bolts coming up through them. where would the numbers be to possitively id it? why would the floor be replaced? is there a height problem with a particular transmission from a pick up from a different era?
I think the 292 V8 had the bolts thru the valve covers. Your floor pan could have been changed because it was damaged, was a floor shift once, maybe a 4x4 cab was mounted and someone wanted the shifter holes covered, lots of reasons. look underneath at the mounts, see if they look undisturbed, or removed and remounted..
KJB you have a Y block v8 there will be casting #s above the oil pump on the drivers side at the rear of the block. Get the #s and post them someone will be able to decode it for you. As far as the floor pan goes the 61s with three spd column shift had a flatter floor pan that did not have a removable center section. If you wanted to use a granny low 4 spd (T98) or an automatic you had to get the center section and install it. My 61 was butchered also. I got the floor pan out of a 63 with an automatic. It fits perfectly. you have to lay it on your existing floor mark the edges and cut 1" inside the marks. Then bolt it in with self drilling sheet metal screws.
The Y block for my 66 has the size on the head. Under 35 yaes of grease there was a raised 352 on one side of the block. Perhaps a good cleaning might tell you what you want to know!
Hey thodge you have an FE engine not a Y block. 64 was the last year for the Y block. You give good advice though, a good cleaning never hurt any engine I've worked on.
