1999 Ford F-150 XLT 2wd w/ Jammed Rear Doors

I have jammed rear doors on my 1999 F-150. Opened when I bought the truck a year ago, no accidents or damage since, but first one door, then the other decided to not open. Suggestions ? Will I have to pull the interior door panel off to get at the mechanism ? Thanks, George

Did you ever figure out how to access the door mechanism from the inside? I have the same problem with my 2k Lariat.

Rear Doors

I just fixed this problem on my 2002, Both rear doors had the same problem. The plastic end fittings on the cables were broken, This was both the upper and lower fittings. I think if only one end fails the door will still open but when both fail it will not open again. Don't try to pry the door open you will damage the latch.
I fixed the problem by making new end fittings for the cables out of brass.
To get the doors open you need to disassemble the door panels peal back the plastic and disconnect the upper cable then pull the wire while you work the lower latch.

Chuck: I ended up pulling the interior door panels off, to access the mechanism. Ended up running a cord from the upper latch, which in conjunction with the door latch, releases the door... didn't bother to replace the door panels...

Pulled mine from the inside as well.. Pc of cake really. Where to find new cables is another story. My cable housing end broke.. I zip tied it to keep it on until I can find a new upper cable.

Rear doors

Without very much trouble You can make new ends for the cables out of something more substantial then plastic. I have a drawing if you are interested.

My cables were not broken, but would not stay in the retainer. I just crossed two zip ties to keep it in place and it worked...... Had to do the other door three months later .

Someone on EBay sales aluminum ends for the cables. Being cheap I used bicycle hand brake adjusters to fix mine. I had some laying around but a local bicycle shop or ebay sale them cheap.

my zip tie held up for a while.. Then one day. Back to square one and the door would not open.

Tired of dinking with it. six months ago, I Removed the latch and cable. Done. About a month after that the passenger side broke. Removed that latch, Done. No problem for 6 months.

The f250 have same latch. Fixe a guys here at work also, Removed latch. Done.. It is a crappy set up for sure..
