I just bought 97 F-250 s/c with 133,000 km, found 2 leaking jumper fuel lines near steering box, I'm heaving very hard time of removing it. Any tricks or special tools?
Thanks
Yes & thank you, the previous owner put some cold weld into the fitting, "one of those quick fix" so I had to cut the line & replaced it with hose & climps. With my luck, I found a big pond of fuel under my turbo, any Idea where I should look for?
You're right! Oh Lord, I just bought this truck 2 weeks ago & problems are building up, but I love this truck, it rides very nice, lots of power & best of all is the fuel consumption, it gets approx 19 us mpg "45% hwy & 55% city driving" and it's with leaking fuel lines & the pump. I can wait to see what's mpg after repair. Anyway, I hope I will not have any major proble to replace the pump.
nope its pretty easy. just make sure you turn the motor over to get it to unseat out of the bore so the tappet doesnt fall into the crank case.
in english please...
ok the fuel pump is a mechanical one. there is a lobe on the cam. a tappet rides on this lobe and goes into the fuel pump. it sometimes falls out when tryin to remove fuel pump. be careful. i used a 24mm socket on the fron of the crank to turn the motor over. make sure to buy the banjo gaskets and new blue hoses.
It's not too hard to replace unless you have a california truck, then the turbo has to come off, PITA, but still do-able. Be sure to pay attention to what 1997F-350 says. Make sure the fuel pump lifts up with rotating the motor. If the tappet falls into the engine, well you get the picture.
you will also need a 1 1/4 combo. i got one from sears for about 25 bucks. there is a step by step write up on changing it if you want it? i can also email you a link to a shop manual that is online but i cant post it in here i got in trouble for doing that already.
Thank you, great info.
I've odered carter fuel pump for $ 178.00 can with all gaskets & hoses. Is there anything I should do or change beside the fuel pump?
Hey 1997F350, could you send me that link for the step by step on how to replace that fuel pump. Also I looked up that pump, and I can order it for around $120 form Ford, but was wondering what hoses you were talking about that I need to replace.
Fuel Hose, BLUE
(Ford) F4TZ-9324-CA, 3" Long lift pump to filter inlet
(Ford) F4TZ-9324-DA Shorter than above, Filter outlet to High Pressure (piston) pump inlet
