There is a 68 stang coupe down here for sale for 3000 or best offer. Says it has abit of rust, although its just surface rust. Has a 289 with an auto. Looks like an ok car, what do you guys think of the price? Im considering it, its not my favorite year and type of old stang but it is pretty cool!
How come they always say ''abit of rust"? Look long ,hard and deep, you will probably find alot more than just "surface rust".
If it`s clean rust wise and runs fairly decent than $3,000 is very reasonable.
A good complete Mustang parts car can go for some where around half that.
Just the usual areas, the worst rust out areas are in the front inner fenders/frame which is much harder to repair than the rust in the back quarters, inner/outer wheel tubes. If there is rust in the front of the car that`s very bad.
Floor pans aren`t too hard to do but do take time.
When I did one back in the days when I still worked in the shops. I did a mustang coupe same year. The inside 1/4's were a pain to repair. The trunk area around the tank can rust away. Floor pans is a concern. The one I did was there was rust where the rad support and uniframe meet under the fenders. Had to remove fenders to repair the rusted out parts. The one I did had lots of small rust holes all over the back end under the car. A lot of them in tight places to get at. It demanded me to be a contortionist to weld those areas.
The thing about the Mustang is that you can actually order just about every peice of metal panel or part that would need to be replaced. When I did the one then a lot of the tin was not available like today.
I will for sure, I was thinking about going and looking at it tomorrow, but im not sure if its the car I want to keep for a project. I know the motor wont make the car go half as fast as I want it too someday, and thats really what I would be getting the car for. A driver I could work on, and thats a car, not a truck, I have too many trucks to work on right now haha.
Not that bad yeah you do have to look at it in person and drive it i think it would make a good project car i love those mustangs could always swap engines too but if that aint the one there are probably plenty more out there...
Yeah there are lots more, another one I was checking out was a 66 coupe in alberta for 2500, or 2600 bucks, looks cool too, but I just dont know much about those really old stangs yet!
