Running Rough?

Hello all,
I got in the truck yesterday and everything started and seemed to run fine, but I did notice that the truck was actually shaking me a little bit more than usual. It was kind of funny, but it was so subtle.....not really bad at all. I looked under the hood and didn't see anything moving at all more than usual. The truck ran through the day just fine, but like I said......just a little rough at idle. Is there anything that I should check? I am not really worried too much, but it is funny when you "feel" that something is not quite right. Thanks for any and all help.

Welcome to FTE RussellF.
There's a few possibilities for your rough idle. Under valve cover wiring harness loose, worn out injectors, air in the fuel, engine needing an oil change.
Does it do it only when cold, or all the time?

It just happened yesterday and I actually did not drive too far throughout the day. I will look into the things you have mentioned today. The oil is not too old, I'll check on that too. What is the "under valve cover wiring harness?"....is it on one side? Thanks for the reply.

the under valve cover wiring harness is under both valve covers and they connect to the injectors and the glow plugs

its part of the valve cover gasket. if it is loose then its less that 100 dollars to fix.

the part to fix it was 10 bucks. the labor is what gets you. mine was the passenger side which is worse of the 2 sides. had an SES light also. it missed and revd up kinda rough.

I guess I must clarify some......the truck did the same again today. I must admit that the engine is not really running "rough" in the sense that it is skipping, blowing smoke or dying out or anything like that. From what I can hear it has run the same as it always has.......it is just that there is literally more shaking(and just a slight one at that) with the engine on idle........I am not sure if this makes any difference in what my earlier post said. I did find the harness on the drivers side of the engine and did not find anything loose. I'll double check on that harness though........I was in a hurry to get to work. I guess that if it was that harness that was loose and it had something to do with the injectors & glow plugs....wouldn't there be some kind of unburnt fuel or some emissions coming out of the tail pipe?

Thanks,
Russ

the harness is under the valve cover. you have to take off the valve cover to access. there is a clip(s) to buy that keeps the harness from opening up again.

Russell do the injectors sound louder and rattle more than normal. Could be air in fuel rail

Do a search for regulated fuel return, air in fuel, cackle, and get ready to read for a long time.
