i just purchased a 66 f-100 2wd with a 240 six cylinder in it,three speed converted to floor shift with a hurst indy shifter, bone stock,no bed,in good overall condidtion,i can start it right up,but that spring that runs from the clutch to the frame is missing and i was wondering if y'all had any advice on that, like where i can get a good service manual for a decent price it would be greatly appreciated,i aint quite sure what i want to do with the truck, although i would like to put a 352 in it,4-speed and 4:11s in the 9 inch rear...please feel free to give me some suggestions on my buildup, and i will put some pics of it on here real soon....thanks for your time and have a great day
Chris, I had one of those springs, but I have no idea where to start looking. Your truck should have 3.75 rear gears now. I would suggest that if you want to convert to a V8 skip the 352 for a 390. With that rear and a 390 you will get to 50 mph at blink speed, where you went after that would be a different matter all together. You would have that big horse running with his tounge hanging out.
Sounds like you may have a good parts truck.

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
I had the clutch return spring break on me before. I went to my local parts store and got a spring with about the same size wire. It also had a straight piece about a foot long after the spring coil, so you can measure and get the right tension then bend the wire to length and cut to size.
where exactly does the spring hook?the pedal now flops, lol, for what i paid though, considering it's condition,it was a steal, the truck would be driveable if i can get the clutch right.......
I'm doing this at work from memory, but I'll check when I get home today. It went from the bottom of the clutch arm and over to the frame just in front of where the steering box joined the frame. Can't remember if there is a hole in the frame or if I hooked it around the steering box and frame mount??
I've finally crawled under my truck today. My clutch spring is hooked from the clutch arm to a slot in the corner of the front cross member where it joins the frame. Hope this helps!... sorry it took so long to reply.... but I just bought a used mustang.... and it absorbed all my time!!
You already have the 9" in the truck. (unless someone changed it) Take a look. that 240 is a nice engine. If you want to play, buy a crank and turn it into a 300. It is one of the best engines ever built. That is why you have a 9". for the torque of a 300 incher. Herman
