Question No park

I found the problem(s) with the C-6 in my old 83 F250 4x4, 460 but, I'm trying to figure out an easy way to repair them and would like some other opinions.
It wouldn't go into park so I dropped the pan and found the parking pawl spring was/is broken off just enough at the tip to let it slip off the pawl after a couple of shifts in and out. I then removed the transfer case and adapter, the tail shaft of the transmission and verified the spring was broken along with about 1 1/2 inches of the manual shift rod.
I have a doner and already have the rod and spring in hand. I can see how to change the rod, it's the spring I can't figure. I can't pull the governor pump without removing the tail shaft which can't be removed without total disassembly, allowing me to simply lift the srping off the pin.
The pawl pin won't come out of the case without some sort of modification to the gov. pump as far as I can tell. Might be able to thread the old spring off and the new one on, not sure.

Anyone know how to change the spring without disassembly?

If your C6 is anything like the C4/C5 trannies you will need to remove the tail shaft and governor to replace the parking pawl and spring, since the govenor housing is what keeps these parts in place. I will check my rebuild manuals tonight if no one else chimes in with a answer.

I bet you are right but, like I said earlier, to remove the tail shaft on a C6 you have to tear it all the way down and gut it. I was trying to avoid that and considering taking a dremmel to the back side of the pawl pin retainer, basically the hole in the pump housing. Then slide the pin out enough to remove and replace the spring and finish off by pinging that same hole so the pin wouldn't slide out. It's either that or take it all the way out and tear it down (again). I rebuilt it about three years ago and not knowing any better put the same broken spring in it that's there today. If I was to just go ahead and remove/gut the thing and get it over with I would have been done by now. Anyway, all that's left is the bellhousing and torque converter bolts to have it out.
Thanks for the reply.
