ours in a kenmore at it has done real well. we bought it because it was the cheapest that wasn't some wierd brand and it had a special returned discount at sears.
I bought a Sharp Carousel II, convection/microwave oven in '92 and it's still going. I do roasts and bake breads in it quite often, it's quite handy, don't have to fire up the big oven for baking something smaller than a turkey; the stainless interior is nice too. It's also 1.6 Cu feet, so you Can put a smaller turkey in it.
It quit on me once and I figured I'd open it up... no harm if it's toast, but I discovered a blown fuse... cost $1.00 at radio shack.

I think the last one I bought was a Sharp Carusel also. I got the one that was like 2.0 cubic feet and over a 1000 watts power. About time to start looking again.
You get good and bad in every brand. Having said that I have a GE under the cabinet model that has given me great service for the past 8 years.
I have an older microwave that has a mechanical timer that is still going strong after 15 years! It's a KitchenAid if I'm not mistaken.
Don't buy a GE. Half of my buttons don't work. Turns out my lady has the same one. Half of her buttons don't work...

Is it the same buttons that dont work? We have a Sharp Carousel, only had it 3 years so I cant comment on how long it will last, but it works beautifully.
We also have a Sharp, it's now almost 14 years old and still works great. I'm really amazed by the new ovens, over 1000 watts of power, we are still cooking at 800 watts
I have a Panasonic unit that my parents bought in 1975. It survived both of them,
and it still works like a charm. If it ever wears out, that's the brand I'll get.
Fireworks are often caused by food particles that keep the door gasket from sealing. Sometimes cleaning that area up well will fix the problem. Test the microwave for leakage also. Testers have been available at Radio Shack and other places. Repair shops have them also.
