I know what it means. Have you any idea of the lead time required for the new model year? Hell, this years model is barely released when all the effort turns to the next model year.
What are the other casting dates on the other engine components? Are the within the right dates for your 67 GT? Is there an assembly date stamping on the bare block somewhere? I forget where they did put these on the FE series. Small blocks had them in front of LH cylinder head on a little "ear". This date is when the engine was assembled. If you can find this, it would clarify whether engine is original or not. With a 5F11 date, that seems rather early for a 67 model. Unless it has been replaced by a previous owner or a Ford garage at some point. ??
There are also fimished machine dates stamped into the block. There are 2 "ears" that stick out on each side of the block right by the head deck. You'll find the finished machine dtae stamped into the flat vertical face of the left (dr side) one. You'll have to scrape away the paint to read them. They also follow the same format the date codes have as far as decoding them. Either way it might be a bit early for a 67 car. As advised check the other date codes on the heads, intake etc... to see how they match.
