My 1978 F150 seems to be having trouble with the fuel guage not working.. If I can remember right it used to halfway work.. now It reads as empty most of the time... Just put 10 gallons of gas in today to be on the safe side.
Without blindly replacing parts does anyone know the correct way to troubleshoot it? I've got no problems or hesitation getting in there with a multimeter to check everything out, but my Haynes manual doesn't go into that with great detail.
If anyone could post reference voltages or resistance levels I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I would also be interested in a little info on this subject. My 78 4x4 has been
in storage for a couple of years. Gauge working great when it was put up, but now stays right on empty. Any info would help.
This guy is the bomb he knows everything about these trucks. Anything he says try, it is always right. I am very thankful to have someone like him on here! There are others as well that are full of experience. Just a pat on the back for all of you pros that give us amateurs, greenhorns, rookies the knowledge to fix our trucks. And saving us tons of cash..... Thank you, Chad
I agree with Mil1ion. It very well could be a ground problem go threw the wiring coming off the tank and see what you have for ground. I had that problem on my old 76 f150 and turned out the float was full of gas ended up replacing the whole SU.
