Post New with 99-00 f-250

I'm looking into getting a 99 or 00 F-250 super cab 4x4. i have some questions that will hopefully be answered so i know what i'm getting into.

1) I have read through some magazines and have heard that the stock transmission can only handle 650 ft/lb. Am I correct? If I plan on making more than 650 ft/lb what kind of transmission should I get? ATS I heard is excellent.

2) Will a 2" leveling kit clear 35" tires? Some people say it will while others and companies say it will only clear 33".

3)Do 4.56 gears come stock in the diffs or will I have replace what is in there with them. I read that all super duty's should be running somewhere around 4.56 gear.

4) How much peformance is lost with bigger tires and wheels? Also if i plan on making more than 650 ft/lb should I replace the diffs with a detroit locker system like the truetrac or the electrac?

I plan on getting a truck within a few months and just wanted to make sure that its something i can handle. A friend of mine has an '06 f-250 crew cab which is flawless so far. Any help will be much appreciated.

First of all, Welcome to FTE. You have come to the right place for information on PowerStrokes.

1. Stock sutomatic transmissions are the weak link on these trucks. There are several builders out there ie, BTS, ATS, John Wood, Suncoast, etc. that build outstanding transmissions for these trucks and will set you back from $4k-$5K including a matching converter.
2. Can't help you on the lift for certain, but I am clearing 33's without any lift, so my gut tells me that they would clear. Others will jump in with hard experience on this one.
3. Stock gears in the F-250's are normally 3.73 with an option of 4.10's. If you want deeper gearing, you will have to install
4. The limitless slip in these trucks from the factory are less than adequate. If you plan on going off road or racing, then plan on some sort of lockers.

All in all, you will find that everyone on here loves their trucks. As with any mod vehicle, you have to build everything around your desired result. In a PSD case, gauges first (to moniter EGT and transmission temps, at a minimum), intake, exhaust, chip or tuner and then what ever you have to do to meet your specific needs.

The 06 F250 has the 6.0 leter which came out in late 03. This forum is for the 99-03 7.3 which is a completely different animal, however, we think they are better power plants.

I know I'll have to get gauges first which will be the tranny, boost, and pyrometer.
Which intake do you guys prefer? Also I have heard many people talking about if they shoudl get a true cat back or turbo exhaust. What's the difference? Is there anything else I should know about that maybe these trucks are notorious for?
