Markmore, my 2000 psd is way off; it reads about 10 mpg over what is actual. I have a Superchips programmer installed so I'm not sure if that's what is making it register so high, or not. My compass and temp readouts are accurate.
I'm using a SC programmer as well, but my trip comp still shows about the same MPG as before the programming (13 - 13.7). It reads 10 mpg over? What is it showing? Have you hand calculated? Do you reset it with every fillup?
If I'm strictly on interstate/highway driving it will read 30+ mpg. When I calculate the mpg manually it is around 20. I usually reset it every time I fill. I've got a Scangauge (aftermarket) computer also, and when I plug it in and use it, it also gives the erroneous reading.
I've not done my hand calcs yet for mpg... but i do know they take an average (I think my manual says "over a 500 mile stretch"). I wish it was lying and I was getting better mileage. But it's still better than my V10 was!!
I do know my '00 V10 X would read 0 miles to empty and I could run another 40-50 miles EASILY with 5 gallons to spare. On my '05 X (6.0 PSD) when it reads "0 miles to empty" I BETTER be sitting at a Diesel pump!!
I brought mine back from Denver the weekend of the 7th of Oct and have only put three tanks in it and am getting to fill it tomorrow for the fourth time..The first tank was Cheyenne to Twin Falls Id with about an avg 20mph headwind and cruise set on 77.. that one was 15.9. The next was freeway and a bunch of two lane from Ontario OR to Bend and came out to 16.8.. The third was from Bend over Mt Hood and then up I-5 and was 17.5 (washington and Ore avg speed was 65).. The trip avg went from 13.8 to 14.0 on the computer and the actual mileages were hand calculated..I am waiting to see what this tankfull will be as it is mostly around town and some freeway with about 50 miles with the 8500# trailer and is around 550 miles and the computer is reading 13.8...
Update... I guess that I needed some fuel..put 39.5 in that 44 gal tank,oopppssss.. add the ten that I put in a week ago and divide 644 miles by the total of 49.5 gals and get 13 mpg... I guess thats better than the 8 1/2 that I would have gotten in the suburban on a tank like that..This tank will have about a 200 mile trailer pull to the beach next week as I have a 4 day Veterans Day weekend.
My computer has been very accurate so far. I usually reset it when I add fuel, even if I don't fill it up. Every time I have hand calculated it, the calculation is within .1 of what the computer says. Now the miles to empty is harder to tell, since it is constantly changing, it seems to be a little bit off, but it is close enough for me. All I care about is the average mpg.
dchaney71, so what kind of mileage are you getting then, and what kind of driving are you doing. I average about 16 or so knocking around town and max out at about 20 on the interstate at 70 mph (2000 7.3 psd, banks power pack, superchips tuner). The mileage is about 1 mph less when buring straight bio.
