Has anyone heard of a passenger side door glass just going KA-BOOM while driving down interstate at 65 MPH. It happened to me in my '06 F150 with 7000 miles on it.
Have not seen it happen the way you describe. Your side glass is tempered glass. When tempered glass gets a knick it only takes a small vibration to make it shatter the way you descibed. Some how it got a knick on the end or somewhere you could not see it,
I found out the hard way installing a glass shower enclosure. I nicked the edge of a panel on the tile as I was placing the door on it's track. It shattered into a million little pieces much like an explosion. Tempered glass is made to take impacts but once you introduce an edge nick, it disturbs the tempering.
My brother had this happen on the tailgate window of his Explorer. The window exploded outwards. He went out in the morning and thought somebody broke into his truck. Then it hit him when all the glass was outside the vehicle and only a couple of pieces inside.
This was not one of my smarter moments but one time I put a long handled floor jack in the back of the pickup with the handle facing the cab. Off I went down the street and when I braked for the traffic light the handle flipped forward-crashed through the rear glass and bashed me in the head. Taught me a lesson about transporting jacks. As far as exploding glass, all the windows will do that except for the windshield. Thats why firemen carry a springloaded centerpunch that will shatter a window instantly with one click-so they can do quick rescues.
