Throttle problems

I changed out the fuel filter about three weeks ago. What a nightmare. Couldn't get that thing to seat right for two days. I had fuel all over. Then it would seem to hold and on my return trip from work it would start spaying fuel all over. Couldn't find a strap wrench that would work. Kept slipping off due to design of wrench. Finally used an old fan belt and vise grips to tighten it. I noticed right away that the throttle seemed really sensitive. It would really take off with the slightest bit of throttle. Thought I should change filters out more regularly. Any way, then I started to notice that at slow speeds that it surges. Like my foot is really jumpy or something. No check engine light or anything, but really annoying after awhile. I changed the throttle position sensor last winter and the feeling was totally different. That was more like it was searching for a speed or gear. This is like I got an itchy foot and cant hold throttle smoothly at lower speeds. Any ideas?

Almost sounds like the IPR is loose and bouncing around causing the HPO to be irratic. Check to see if maybe you knocked the tin nut off the IPR valve. I have never experienced your symptoms, but since you were working in that area, it would be a good place to start.

Hey, What am I looking for? I don't know names of all the PSD parts. Sometimes I feel I am in the Military with all the abriviations and all. I don't know what IPR and HPO is. I have a repair manual CD, which sucks(cant ever find what I am looking for on it) If you can describe it a little more I would appreciate it. I just replaced the o-rings on my Hpop. Had a bunch of you guys explain it and the repaire went so smoothly. I was really surprised. It ran strange for a couple of days, but I think that was due to water on some connectors or something, because only this problem is left.

Thx
Ray

IPR stands for injector pressure regulator. im not exactly sure what he means by HPO unless its meant to be HPOP which is your high-pressure oil pump. the pressure reg. is towards the front of the engine its attached to the HPOP which is what your engine cover attaches to. as for the pic i dont have one, but it should be the only electrical connection there.

oh i think i know what the ipr is now? is it positioned in the engine horizontally? threaded right into the hpop?

and essentially--the ipr is a fuel pressure regulator isn't it?
