Fired up the 53 M350 and clean all the farmer stuff off the truck. The po must have got a great deal on nuts, bolts and lumber as there was alot of it bolted on in order to turn it into a grain truck.
The zip cut removed the rusted bolts/nuts. Man, I`m glad that no one still uses square nuts any more as they are a pain to remove. There was even Model T running boards bolted on top of the rear fenders for stepping into the box. Now it`s starting to look like a truck again.
Looks like the right water pump is starting to leak abit, I hope Napa or some other local suppler has them. I will try to replace both at the same time, if I don`t then the other one will probably start to leak soon. Also need a set of points, rotor and cap for it.
i built a fancy set of stairs at teh one rental house, put down some new floors, and drove the 79 back and forth through the field just to give it some run time, got it up to like 25 k one time, and it was bouncing all over the place. sad sad days.......
Well picked up my exhaust manifold from the machine shop. Had broken the tap while trying to rethread for bolts. Cost 60.00 to have them blast the tap out and rethread it for me. Maybe this weekend or shortly after change exhaust manifolds and get the warped one off. No more exhaust barking out.
Well did the exhaust yesterday. Nice to have the truck sounding so quiet and no exhaust leaks and smells into the cab. It seems to be running smoother. Not sure But I think the gas mileage may of improved?
Painted the tins on a friends motorcycle this week. Had to fix some major dents right in the front of the gas tank. Tried out one of those glue gun dent puller thingys even...just kept popping off. Looks pretty sweet now that is done, supposed to get the bike tonight to do the reassembly.
No kidding, getting dents out of a motrcycle tank isnt easy. I have had a few older enduros when I was younger and never did get the dents out very well. Got them smaller but not out.
No just repaired the old exhaust manifold. The studs had broke and I drilled them out and while tapping new threads the tap broke, so had to get a machine shop to get the tap out and finish the threads. I'm just glad to have the truck sounding quiet and no more fumes. I also worried about ever getting caught in one of those spot check inspections and they serving me papers on the truck. I now have enough of the truck fixed that they would let me by now.
A large hammer and some very bent, twisted and curved 3/8 rod. then a bit of filler. Got it all back together tonight, and fired up. I wanted to test drive it but it is way to loud, and to late. The neighbors would call the cops for sure. Have to wait till morning.
Yeah 66 those inspections arent too friendly on older vehicles from what I hear. Locups, that sounds like a good method to fix the tank. I know when I tried fixing mine I had a round steel rod and a hammer, but it wasnt working out for me. I also didnt try being the rod either.
I tried fixing a very large dent in my gas tank by sealing it up and applying large amounts of air pressure to it. Needless to say, I ended up buying another tank off ebay and my original tank has a very unique shape!!
This last weekend, I went on a nice long hike all the way around stanley park. Then for suppper went to grandville (i think its called that) island, was pretty neat!
