I changed the oil for the first time on my brand new f-150. The owners manuel says 7.0 quarts. I put in 7 quarts of 5w-20 and a new filter. The dipstick shows that I am over the max fill mark. Is this something to worry about or is it ok? Feel free to email me with any input.
No book says 7qt thats what it holds and needs
did you start it then let it set and wipe the stick off and recheck it? if so then where ever that the oil line is at thats the full mark. http://media.putfile.com/my91s14mi-runs
How much did you put in the filter? Personally, I put a pint in the filter and add the rest to the oil fill. Once the motor has run for afew seconds the filter is full and the oil is at the proper level.
I thought the same thing. I put a half pint in the filter and rollm the filter around so the oil soaks into the fabric within the filter. Anything more seems to run out while installing the filter. 7 qrts total later the level of the oil is at the top of the dipstick level line. 35k miles later at 7 total changes and knock on wood, no leaks.
the 5.4 does need 7 quarts , but each dipstick is not the same. i compared 3 of them side by side and one was off by a full 1/4'' . i would not rely on the dipstick.
