im looking for a shop that can make a custom camshaft.i tried oregon camshaft but they cant make the numbers i gave them.if anyone made one before or knows a good shop please let me know.if it was for me i would buy one already made but my freak mechanic didnt see any that he likes.he already threw away the distributor and put 4 coils and a computer he made himself and so far is running much better than before so i trust him.
some numbers he gave me for the camshaft:212/256 centerlobe112 if that helps anyone?
thanks!!! nicolas
Look into the major cam manufactures, Schneider, Crower, Crane, Isky as they have a custom program department. They may have corrections to your specs that will help.
100 yrs ago they were all custom. You had to take YOUR specs to the grinder to get YOUR cam.......There are still some cam shops that'll grind anything you want them to, but, you own it, period. Now that said, most cam grinders will work with you, and, as mentioned, add some input as to what you'll wind up with........But you still own it, up front that is, you own it.........aMP
I be my own wrench or would that be the wrenches in the shop called the pit crew? Between known motor combinations and cams plus a Dyno Sims program tom add custom cam specs it has rewards on a motor tailored to your useage and gearing. When standard off the shelf cams aren't what you want.
Well any good cam grinder will need, Bore, stroke, Header Primary size and collector length, Carb CFM, Intake CFM at a given Lift also helps! Head flow Chart, A guesstimated CR, Ignition type, amount of spark in Volts at the at the plugs, Trans Type, Trans Gear ratio, Rear end gear ratio, Rear tire size, and weight of Vehicle...
I'am sure I left a few things out..But you get the jest! Its early and I havent finished my first cup yet..LOL.. Oh and of course..the type of driving you'll do!!
Alot of guys find a Cool sounding cam..and built the motor around it..(wrong) the cam is the last internal part in the build.. JMO.. for what ever its worth...LOL..
The pisser would be if you had a wild idea of cam specs and it doesn't work in real life, oops and you paid big money vs a cheaper and better off the shelf item. Been there done that but that was back in 1970. Now we have Sim's programs to better play or chose with unless the BMEP is in the 230 zone on pump gas. (that was only a joke).
i called the mayor manufacturers and no one can do it ,they can only change a little bit from an already made cam.i need to find a shop that really makes custom cams ,not just a slight variation, that is why its called custom.
if anyone knows a shop that has the will to make a custom job please let me know.thanks to all!!!
