i did the powersluts and hawk pads on my excursion. after 13000 miles, it is now making the ungodly metal to metal sound from the fronts. i checked the rotors and they are heavily scored and the pads are about 8/32". they just tore the rotors up. i have heard about the ART rotors, but man, $$$$$. $600 for front rotors and pads?? do they come with a little woman on the side for that price?
That is EXACTLY what you'll get with Super Duty compound pads when you aren't towing all the time heavy or the load isn't sufficient to create the heat to get the pads hot enough to do their job. Whoeve told yoy you needed them for big tires and wheels didn't steer you the right way at all! We have sold hundreds of LTS and no issues at all, the few Suepr Duty's we have sold have been to soemone that told us they knew more than we did and then yep you guessed it they had problems.
All due respect Mark, but you sell these pads therefore you are going to try and come up with some sort of an excuse. No offense, but your opinion may be tainted by the fact that you also sell these pads. I have a lifted truck and drive alot in stop and go traffic, and tow a 4000# trailer about 2-3 times a month with an occasional 10000# trailer. If that doesn't heat the brakes up I don't know what will. These pads may work well with new powerslot rotors, but with freshly turned stock rotors they suck!!!! I bought these Hawk pads because every time someone ask about brakes on this site you chime in and give your personal experience and that you sell them. I am not trying to take buisness away from you, but I am trying to inform others as to the problem with these pads so others can learn. That is what this site is about. Thanks

I don't work for Mark, don't know Mark, and don't sell brake pads.
Mark knows what he is talking about, and is too nice to say it like it is.
You choose the wrong pads for your application plain and simple. Different pads work differently under different situations, just like tires. Racing slicks are great on dry pavement, but stink in the wet. Don't blame Hawk or anyone else if you choose racing slicks and drive only in the rain...
Thank you for helping the board understand the short comings of using the SD pad in less than SD applications though.
I would try to go with LTS pad, it should work well in your application.
So I've read all the posts on this subject and I still don't know what type of pads to put on my rig. I have a 2003 F-250SD v10, 4x2, Crew Cab, Long Bed. I tow a 40' 13k lbs. 5th wheel trailer about once a month but most of my driving is urban city highway (with stop and go on weekdays) driving. I've got 34k miles and this will be my first brake job.
Any recommendations for pads to replace the stock ones? Also, should I turn the rotors? This has been a debate in the past.
