What I wish the DieselManor site would do there is continue that, and tow a huge trailer up a hill or go forward/reverse to get the tranny up to 210 or so, and compare the 210 to what the stock gauge shows. Even up to 225 where it's time to pullover, and see what the stocker shows, and if it tells you it's time to pull over.

Normal range
I had read somewhere on FTE here, that the gauge reads in the normal range about 100* or something close, and goes up to the scale only when the fluid gets up to 248*. I am not sure what the significance of 248*was, but according to the article, the gauge will NOT move beyond the circle on the normal range till it hits the majic number of 248* and then it goes up to the red....then it's too late...I have a 9500# fiver and going through the mountains when its 100 outside, with my 6.0 tranny cooler, I have NEVER seen over 160*. Whether it's pulling nothing or pulling the fiver through the mountains, the stock gauge stays where it always has....and the ISSPRO gauge flucuates between 150* and 160*. I had heard to expect outside air temp +75 and for 99% of my driving that is accurate but when it got up over 100 outside, I never saw over 160* on the gauge..and always try to keep her below 180 is another good rule of thumb...just my 2cents worth.......Dave

I'm glad I put the aftermarket tranny guage in also. I normally see tranny temps at 80 degrees above outside air temp driving unloaded around town. When towing my 10,000 lb 5'er I see anywhere from 140 -190 depending on the grade and outside air temps. The stock one just sits at normal after the engine warms up.

I somehow believe those stock in dash temp gauges and oil press etc are wired from sender to pcm that just basically tells the stock garbage to go to normal range when on. They certainly do not move like aftermarket gauges wired directly to the sending unit. Like an idiot light, the PCM sees an out of tolerance reading and tells the gauge to go out of normal, after the event has occurred. Ooops, too late.
BTW Dave, how's the stacks project coming along? I haven't heard.
