with hdman6's indulgance I'll bend (hijack) this thread a little bit. I've got a 2001 F250 that I use for towing my 5er. So far all is well . All I want is to improve the performance a tad. It would seem that anytime we tow anywhere, it's up 4,000 ft over the mountain and back down. SoCal will do that to you. My implementation list is a follows:
1. Air filter-K&N (sorry, that's prior to my finding this forum), didn't do squat.
2. Exhaust- 4", generic w/flowthru muffler, saw an increase of 2mpg towing
3. gauges- ready to be installed
4. Chip tuner- it's a Superchip 1705 ( was passed on to me), ready to be installed.
5. tranny cooler-Trucool 4739, to be installed as soon as UPS delivers it.
Here's the questions- I'd like to install an HPX line. Which one to get ? Rigid stainless or flex ?
How about BTS valvebody vs. Sonnax valve and Tricumulator springs ?
As always please feel free to spend my money freely.
thanks
I would get rid of the K&N filter. I have used them on my Harley-Davidson & other vehicles and they worked fine. But for diesels they are not the best system out there. They tend to let larger dust particles through which can lead to dusting of the engine.
1. Intake - AIS or 6637:AIS cost more filters better and doesnt "Scream" as much Both flow good air it will be a personal preference on turbo squeel
2. Exhaust - Cant go wrong with MBRP I fell i love with the clips Kwikkordead has in his sig and will be ordering a Mark Romriell 5 " system in the next couple of weeks.
3. WW - if you are staying with a stock exhaust it will scream louder and spool up a little faster
4. Gauges - Autometer and Dipricol make good gauges
5. BTS VB - Brian builds them right if money is unlimited I would go with a full tranny/TC
6. DP Chip - No need to say more but I have heard that tony wildmans tunes are pretty good also
BANKS - $$$$$ they love their products
I second that! Tony Wildman's (total Diesel Performance) tunes are great. I've have one of his 4 position chips with two town burns, a +80 econo, and a WOT setting. I love the setup.
I installed the flex line and I will be changing to the rigid. If this line leaks or bursts you will quickly loose your oil. At 450-3,000 psi that oil comes out fast.
