I have a 1963 223 6 cyl.
I just rebuilt the engine, but I didn't touch the area where the oil filter attaches to the engine...there's a circular thing with 'top' labeled and 'this side out'
After installing the engine it runs excellent, but I have a real bad leak coming out of this area. I tried to unscree this circular area from the engine to replace the gasket there, but ended up stripping the nut that holds it.
Am I doing something wrong here, is this a reverse trhead thing or is it just extremely tight?
Thanks for any help.

What you have circled is a spin on oil filter adapter. I don't know when Ford started using spin on filters but I had one on my 59. It has a pipe thread on the inside where it screws into the block and a male nipple on the outside for the oil filter. it should be sealed by two O-rings a large and a small. Its probably been in there for yaers and will be very tight. I would first make sure you can get a replacement then try using a small pipe wrench on it you'll probably destroy it thus the replacement. Be carefutl not to break the nipple off in the block. Good luck, Rich
