I own a '95 Ram 1500 with 100+k on the clock and no problems other than the catalytic converter going twice.

Buy what you like. If you want performance and looks, Dodge is the way to go. If you want ride quality and interior comfort, go for the Ford.

Good luck,
Eric

Navyboy,
When I moved to Texas a year ago I figured I should buy a truck, either a Dodge or a Ford since that's most of what I saw on the roads. I test drove both several times during a one month period, wrestling with my decision. I watched Ford's DVD about how they make them and it shows the mechanical differences between the major competitors and that partially sold me on the Ford. Another deciding factor was seeing a dark copper King Ranch with its leather seats. I found the Ford's ride was more car-like. That said, IMHO the Dodge generally looks better. Take your time deciding so you don't second guess your decision at a later date. I can look at a Dodge now and know I bought what was right for me. It's your money - spend it wisely. BTW, this is my first truck.

The video Ford came out with "TRUTH ABOUT TRUCKS" shows either the Dodge or Chevy doors flexing like you mentioned. The Fords structural quality is very strong I guess thats why they are heavier trucks.

Hey guys I really appreciate all the detail and pros and cons. I will definately take a very close look at the next two trucks I go look at. The dealers might get a little annoyed at that though huh. I really dont care. Anyways. Thanks again everyone. MORE RESEARCH TO COME!!!

I'm just wondering why you weren't as satisfied with the Ford as you were with the Dodge?
Or why did'nt he just buy a new Dodge? I would'nt pay $30,000 for something i did'nt like.

Navy like i said i'm not flaming but i just added my .02 worth. I would'nt go to a Dodge site and ask them to help me buy a Ford. And as the post keep coming to this thread you might beable to see my point. They all loved Dodges but yet they own Fords. I would'nt put much weight in that. If i where you i'd be more confused than when i started. You do know that there is still some Ford gearheads left in the world that will talk you into buying something else just to stomp all over your head.

Some of these guys will tell these trucks are slow and weak and yada yada yada. Brother when you take 6000lbs and you push it to 110 mph that thing is anything but slow, put on top of that 4x4 and a scab or screw it just insain. no truck needs to be any faster. as i've said to many times to count, you'll never out work a ford. theres more Ford at work than anything else.
By all means by what you like. at work i talk to the chevy guys and the dodge guys and toyota and nissian nuts its kinda refreshing to come home and have a place to talk about Fords. Not Ford beating on any body but just about fords...........

I dont know if you've seen it yet but some of us has been riduculed for liking our fords and speaking up for them as if we are mindless servents of the Ford Dynasty. I mean imagine some people shock when they come to a board titled "Ford Truck Enthusiasts" and guys that actual like Fords. In the real world theres enough talkingabout the other guys its nice that this site is here where we can talk about what i love "Ford Tough Trucks."

If this gets me flamed .....so be it. I love my Ford but, if there were really that much difference in one brand than another, there would only be one brand.

If you like it (what ever it is) you should get. You will probably be happy.

My 2 cents worth.

It's an '06 regular cab, don't know if being a reg cab makes a difference. Every time I drive by the Dodge dealer I look to see if it's sold, it's a VERY sharp truck. I would very seriously consider buying it if I needed a new truck right now.

Remember, apples to apples. regular cab to regular cab. Leather to leather, you get the idea. Don't fall in love with one four door until you drive the other four door.
