Roll Top Covers

I pick up my 2006 Harley Super Duty today. Trading in my 04 dually, which had a Retrax roll top cover. I wasn't entirely happy with the cover for 2 reasons, 1) it was not water tight, and 2) the lexan warped a bit over time so it wasn't completely flat anymore either. Anyone have an opinion on other lockable roll top covers that might be a better option? Mainly, I want a hard cover, that is water tight, retractable, and looks nice.

Go to the Perigon web site and look at theirs...I have ione on my 250 LB.....love it! They do NOT claim it to be WATERPROOF, but it very close....I don't get water in the truck when it rains nor have I had snow (water) leak thru it. They just won't GUARANTY it. It depends on the installer (you). www.perigon.com

Arrow Not what U want BUT . . .

I like the Truxcedo Lo Pro soft cover. It locks, it supports 300lbs, it is very water tight, many colors, and it roll up out of the way when you need it to. The price was right given the hard ones you are looking at. There is an install articule on the home page to see it as well.

The hard top I like but found too expensive was the FoldaCover but twice as much.

I had the Roll-n-lock's for a while and switched to the TruckCoverUSA cover and love it. It's the most water-resistant out of all the roll-up covers that I've used. The drain system is the key. It's expensive but worth it in my opinion and rated to hold up to 500lbs on top, but I don't know why someone would need that.

Peregon is running a sale on its website at $499 through Sept 15. I'd say that is a heck of a deal for a hardtop retractable cover, and I'm inclined to go with that. Anybody else out there have one, and care to opine on its ability to keep water out?

TruckCoverUSA is having a sale also...Only$1399!(grin) Like I said...It's expensive, but this think is built like an Armadillo's Plating. I was reluctant to spend that kind of money, but I had to have something very secure for the equipment that I transport sometimes between bases. I've found that the cheap ones don't hold up long if you open/close the unit a lot.

One thing to look for is how much plastic/nylon is used on the rollup mechanisms and locks. This seperates the quality from the junk.

between my friends we have gone through about 5 different brands. and now almost all of them use the roll'n lock. keeps about 98% of water out, color doesnt fade and 6 years later it still rolls smooth.

goped...the only problems I had with Roll'nLock was good drainage and the locking setup at each side of the tailgate. For the money the Roll'nLock is the best by far. The TruckCoverUSA setup is just bullet-proof and locks better for my needs.

Anyone have any opinions about the pace-edwards jack rabbit?

L8Braker...My brother-in-law has one and it's been replaced 3 times. It's JUNK...The roll-up mechanism is mostly plastic parts. The Roll-N-Lock or the TruckCoverUSA. The JackRabbit is more than the Roll-N-Lock.

Well i have the Pace Edwards and I takes a lot of abuse and constant rolling up and back. My friends company puts them on all their trucks and the only problem they've had at ALL is they may get out of alignment if the brackets get loose. I love mine so far; its' not totally water proof at the tailgate even though I have the seal but we're talking not enough to soak a grocery bag. Downside- they're expensive.

Personally I would recommend the Harley Low Pro QT. It would match your truck great.

I've got the PE JackRabbit, and it has been great so far. I like the metal, not vinyl, exterior surface. It appears to be waterproof, except for what comes in around the tailgate. The design, as with any cover that does not go over the rear rail, allows water to run off the back end of the cover and down the inside of the tailgate, though there is a rubber seal there. However, any water that gets in that way drains right out the bottom (no tailgate seal). Bottom line, last 6 inches of bed can get damp, but again, I don't have the tailgate seal.

I have a PE Full Metal Jack Rabbit with the powder coated aluminum. I love that thing. The powder coating looks great, and you dont have to put conditioners and everything on it like you do the vinyl covers. The self locking mechanism in it is great, just pull it closed to where you want it, and it stays. It does leak at the tailgate, but that is the only place it leaks that I can tell. I really like how it mounts flush with the Bed also. On my first truck I had just the basic PE Roll Top with the vinyl top. I liked it but it was kinda hard to keep the vinyl looking good sitting outside in the NM sun. It was expensive, but I really like it.
