Ford probably calls it the fuel level sending unit since it is a combined deal.
As far as paying a mechanic to do the job, it would probably be pricey, drain the tanks, drop the tanks, replace the unit, replace the tanks and replace the fuel. That is a several hour job for each tank. Shop rates here are over 50 dollars an hour at most places.
