I want to put a CD player In my 1990 regular cab ranger. How do I remove the Factory Radio? What Are some things I need to be aware of in the removing of the old radio and install of the new CD player. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
they make a set of clips that remove the factory radio. you can get these from wal-mart if you like. aslo i would buy the factory to aftermarket plugs. these plug right into the factory radio wire harness and lets you hook up any radio you like with out butchering the original stuff. so if down the road you decide to put it back like was (ie. selling the truck but wanted to keep the cd player) you could have it all back together with lil trouble.
i doubt it. the connectors on the cable is totally different. unless you rig up something. but you can get replacement antennas fairly cheap if yours is busted.
Yep they make them, they also make aftermarket ones of all sorts, short, tall, retractable, chrome, you name it they make it. Just poke around. Crutchfield would be a good place to start, as would Jegs, JC Whitley, and possibly Summit Racing.
As said the little clips can be purchased at Walmart. I believe they're called "Ford OEM Radio Removal Tool". Like 5 bucks. Put into the holes on both sides of the radio, push 'til they click, then pull and the whole radio comes out.
Actually they make the 2-in 1 antennas for a radio and CB combo and there is a special "splitter" that works in conjunction. My father had this on his '89. The CB was pretty decent if you used it on the highway. But if you get in a Hole, or on secondary or side-roads you can forget about it.
I'd do some searching on google. (I'll ask around too!)
Btw: you may want to do a search on the radio change/removal. There was a post not too far back on this very subject.
On EDIT: you might have one of the Rangers that had a part of the dash-surround covering up a portion to the radio (not the holes). In this case the surround will have to be "removed"...
