Leaking fluid!

I noticed today the smell of diesel when I stepped out of my truck. I looked under the hood and I did not see anything so I blew it off. A few hour ago I walk out to see a 1' circle under my truck, it looks and smells like diesel with a little bit of oil mixed in. Any ideas or places to look for the leak. It looks like it is dripping from a shroud just behing the oil pan.

Check the valley for puddled fuel the O-rings on the drain valve are notorious for leaking. Ford sells the assembly only (~70 bucks) but the o-rings can be bought online from www.puredieselpower.com for 10 bucks if you can wait

I believe that if you look down in the valley of the engine, you will see fuel standing there. You will need to get on top and look staight down. I could be what I just went thru with mine and had to replace the o-rings in the water drain valve.

Yeah that sounds right,I knew I had heard that before. I read in my searchs that it is a #90 o ring and the it is 1/2" OD--1/4" ID--1/8" material thichness. Need to get rings that are rated for fuel contact. Got mine from a CAT service truck.

Could be, usually leaks shortly after filter change. Should see that with a good look.

Ok, I looked in the valley and there is definetly diesel puddling under the turbo (or it that general area). Next question is will it hurt if I drive the truck for a few days until i can get it fixed and does anyone have any tips of replacing the o rings?

Unless you blow all your fuel out, I don't think it will hurt anything. On the other hand I seem to remember one member who lost a clutch because of fuel getting on it. Can't tell if you have an auto or manual. You should fix it as soon a you can because at $3.00 a gallon and a leak like yours it will get expensive. If it is you water drain valve it is not to hard to do. Just did mine today. about 30min and a little cussing after dropping 3 of the 4 screws down in the valley. Diesel fuel and scraps and cut don't mix well for me. If you get up on the engine and have some on cycle the switch to make the fuel pump pressurize the system. You should be able to see or feel what is leaking.

I really recommend against driving it like that. Diesel is not very flammable, but your turbo and up pipes get extremely hot. Not worth the chance, especially considering the price of the rig as compared to possibly just removing the filter cap and reseating the oring and resealing it. Might just work.

If that is not an option for you and you must drive the truck, hose the valley off thoroughly and keep it cleaned off until repaired.

Good point Tenn01PSD350, Here's the link SpringerPop provided me to lead me through the o-ring replacement. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ighlight=danco It worked great for me. I was lucky my dad in law was home with the company service truck and had only two o-rings that small. Guess they will last, they were made for CAT diesels.

I found the drain valve and I gave it a few quick turns as suggested by the link. The deisel came pouring out on the ground, but it was pouring out about 1' or so further foward that may original leak. Does this mean my leak is from somewhere else or are the o0rings still the culpret. Also is there anything that I need to do to stop the fuel from running out when I take of the drain valve?

You can stop the excessive leaking with a hose on the drain tube into a suitable container when you get ready to repair it. Once drained, no more will flow. (Just don't turn the key on again)

I believe the leak may occur in a different spot only if it is not coming from the bowl via the tube. Could be valve orings leaking out, or even cap ring that runs down the front. That filter cover leak is the easiest to fix if it can be pinpointed.
