Ok I just noticed a rather large spot of fluid under the truck last night when I puled into the driveway. When I checked out the puddle it smelled like fuel but has what looked like small drops of oil in it. I have not had a chance to climb under the truck to see what I can see, but does any one else have this issue?
You're better off posting in the 7.3L forum since this is a 7.3L problem.
The Ex forum is a great forum but it covers all things Excursion, which came with 4 different engines.
My first guess though would be your fuel bowl drain valve is leaking (a common problem), causing your puddle. Without more info though its difficult to diagnose.
Open your hood and look at the back of your fuel bowl. Down by the yellow lever, clean the area as best as you can and monitor closely to see if fuel is leaking from that area.
A lot of times you don't have to even clean the area, it's very apparent the fuel is leaking from the valve body.
Clean the valley out really well. After you wipe out all the gunk, fluid, and dirt, spray it down with brake cleaner and get it as clean as possible. Also clean around the fuel bowl lever, HPOP, and fuel line fittings.
Start your engine and see if anything leaks at idle. Get a flashlight and take your time.
If you see nothing, take it for a quick blast up and down the road for a few minutes and recheck. You should see where the fluid is coming from.
Once you determine where it's leaking from, and what exactly is leaking, diagnosing your problem and helping you take care of the leak should be fairly easy.
Mine had the same symptoms. Found it leaking right behind the fuel filter canister through the drain ****. I'm currently fixing mine now by replacing the entire drain **** assembly if I can get my hands on one . Seems to be a challenge! I'll let you know what I find.
Mine was leaking there as well. I ordered the o-rings and fixed it this past week. Mine had gotten so bad I could smell it and would leave a puddle under it where ever I parked. Only took 1 1/2 hours to take it off and rebuild it and put it back on. most of that time was hunting a star bit that would fit in there.
I looked, it is coming from the area by the yellow valve (HPOP i believe). it has filled the a lot of the valley with fuel.
Actually, no, not the HPOP. The valve is on the fuel filter housing, since it is designed to drain water out of the fuel bowl. The HPOP is forward of the filter bowl, and is under the rectangular oil reservoir.
