Boiled Peanuts, Anybody???

I had an aunt of mine email me and ask if I wanted anything from home. I told her that I wanted some boiled peanuts, thinking that there was no way she could send me something that would spoil too quickly. However, today I received a box in the mail from my aunt and she had found some boiled peanuts in a can! I haven't opened them yet, but am certainly looking forward to it. I grew up eating them, and haven't had any in a very long time. It may be only a Southern thang, but have any of you ever tried them? If so, did/ do you like them? Do you have any recipes for them? All I know is to boil them (in the shell) and contiune to add salt for several hours. Yummy!!

I had some when I went to visit my aunt in Florida. They weren't awful, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have them again.

My family is from the South, but I've never had boiled peanuts. Now, fried green tomatoes, country ham, eggs and grits, that's good eatin.

I have eaten them from a can and they were pretty good.
Not good as fresh boiled.

I always wanted to try them when I visted N. Carolina. I saw several people selling them at road stands, but I never stoped and bought some.

I'm eating some right now. The Ma & Pop store down the road from me always has them. You can even buy a bag of them already seasoned, all you have to do is add water and throw em in the cooker.

Although I am from the south, they are not very common in my area. I do however, enjoy them as often as possible (whenever I have time to boil my own), they are plentiful where my dad lives and I always make a point when I visit to pick up a few bags and snack on them the entire time I am visiting.

Wassabe, if you like fried green tomatoes, you must not be afraid to try new stuff. Give the peanuts a taste- bet you'll like 'em. Don't try to eat them while yuo're driving down the road, though. You have to steer with your knee so you can properly shell them and toss them out the window... Not that I've ever done that. That would be irresponsible...

My uncle moved to north Florida when I was a teenager. We've been to visit a few times and have always seen the stands selling them, but we've never been brave enough to try them.

Now good ol' Southern Bar-B-Q, now there's another story.

I guess I'm in the minority. I lived in Jax for awhile and heard so much about the boiled peanuts. I passed by a stand where this old guy was boiling them up and got some. Felt like a big gob o' snot in my mouth. I love roasted peanuts but found the boiled ones just too slimy and well you get the picture.

I stop alot for boiled p-nuts. I find the uglier the stand, and the worse the spelling on the sign, the better they'll be. I make my own in the crock-pot; peanuts, water, a buncha salt, a few cloves of garlic, and some cayenne. Yummm!

Throw some peppers in while they're boiling and they'll be so much better. My hometown's a peanut field with a redlight, so I feel qualified to comment on the matter.

I love peanuts, so I thought I would love them prepared any way, but found out boiled is not the way to go for me....to each his own, I just couldn't do it (nor my spouse).
