I just finished installing a rear wing. I was originally going to install a "wind jammer" from "Lund" but I wanted something different and somthing that looked like it came from the factory. I found this one on E-bay, I'm not sure if it is going to keep my rear window clean or dust free I'm not really worried if it does or doesn't. All I wanted is for the Expy to look different from all the other ones on the road.
Here are some pics;
I almost forgot to show the pic of the materials that I used.
Yep, that's the right pic. I used paint in a can, so don't let anybody tell you that spray cans don't work or the paint won't match. All you have to do is follow the instructions.
Great work! I used my compressor and my spray gun to try and do a real auto paintjob in my gagrage when i painted my spoiler! For some rattlecans that doesnt look bad at all! You must have a very steady hand. It could use a lil' wetsanding though, 1500 into 200 grit and then polish her off. Nice!
My spoiler:
Yesterday I parked the Expy in the garage (not all the way) because it was raining and I didn't want the girls to get wet. Oh, by the way 99.99% of the time I'm the one that swaps the cars before we go to bed so my wifes van is in the garage. Well, my wife comes home and decisided to close the garage door without checking to see if the Expy was all the way in. Now I have a deep gauge in the rear wing and the rear window is also scratched! My wife seems to think it is my fault because I didn't pull the Expy all the way in. (I don't think she even said that she was sorry) I didn't want to start to argue with her over who was wrong or right, I just ignored her for the rest of the evening. I'm still P.O.ed over the whole thing .
All that hard work only to be enjoyed for a few days!!!
Now, I gotta see how I will fill in the plastic and repaint the wing again. Maybe I should tell my wife to buy me another wing and have it painted at a auto paint shop at her expense.
Sorry for the drama, I guess I needed to let off some steam.
She didn't even whimper an angry sorry? Sounds like my wife...she screws up and somehow it's my fault . But, it looks fixable. Throw down some filler break out the sand paper and let the little woman sand that puppy 'til it's smooth and even! Then hit the snooze button buddy and try not to break a sweat.
sometimes unfortunate incidents aren't really anyone's 'fault'...either way i'm sure with your skills you'll have that wing lookin good again soon enough. but how does one fix a scratched window?
Good question, I've already tried scratch remover, 3M, and alcohol just in case it was just paint transfer, but it is definately scratched. It almost looks like the scratch is filled in with the paint from the wing.
I guess I'll search the webb and post the question in the forum for somthing that will remove the scratch.
I'll keep eveybody posted.
Hopefully it's just mostly paint. The rear wiper had etched the rear glass on my '01 Expy. I tried everything (after a relentless search here and on other forums) to lessen the appearance of the scatch and nothing worked. Once there's a groove in the glass your options are limited. Good luck though!
I got the rear wing repaired and painted; here are a few pics of before and after.
I had to make two access holes on the rear hatch for the nuts that hold the wing. I fabed up a couple of cover plates that I installed with blind rivets.
