not enough power
just bought a 1984 f-250 6.9 deisel truck w/137,000 mi. and today pulled my 14 foot trailer with three med. 4-wheelers and it really struggled to pull medium hills. it was to the floor and loosing speed probably 5-10 mph before reaching the top of the hills. It seems to run very well but i was really not happy with its performance at all. Ive even noticed it loosing speed up hills bad when not even pulling trailers.
I believe any v-8 gas truck would have done a better job. Is this normal?
is there something i should look at? Are there anything i can do to increase power? Thanks, any input helpfull.

What tranny do you have, are you in the correct gear? These older trucks just wont run with the new ones. My truck only has 121k miles, but I have to slow down and drop to 2nd gear to take most hills when pulling my flatbed.

One more thought -- look on the inside driver's door post and see what your rear end ratio is. You can take the code number and axle number and find out on google. You'd hope it was a puller originally put in a diesel, but never assume. If your rear end is 3.25 or worse, 3.00, its just not a puller. -- Garcia
