gear positioner

Hello All,

The truck is an 84 F150, C6 automatic. In my never ending quest to pass Maryland state inspection I got the incredible news that one of the things I failed for is that the pointer on the gear selector does not exactly line up with the little letter (You know, "P", "R", "N" etc) in the console/dash. I haven't looked at it yet, but I thought if anyone knew off the bat if there's a way to adjust this, I'd love to hear from you.

Meanwhile I'll be fixing the small hole on top of the cab that has the remnants of a CB antennea installed years ago by a previous owner (falied for that too). My God, and I've been driving around with this dime sized hole in the top--what was I thinking endangering my life with such a safety violation?!?!? (Before you write, there must be a grommet or something in there because it does not leak. If it did, I would have fixed it long ago.)

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help,
-Tom

How much slop is there in the actual shifter lever right at the cowl where it gets attached ?

All that pointer is, is a piece of plastic string like in a weed eater trimmer uses. Take off the steering shroud and there will be a little clamp in there that holds this. Loosen the clamp and slide the string in or out as needed until the pointer is where you want it. I put mine in neutral and then adjusted it from there.

Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Getting the shroud off is the hardest part as it fits snug against the cluster so getting wiggle room may be tough. I don't recall if I had to take the bezel off to get it off or not. I was actually replacing my cluster with a new one that had a tach and had to take the whole thing apart anyway. Regardless, it is just a bunch of phillips head screws holding the whole thing together. OK, maybe 30 minutes to do it. -ggg-

Good Luck,

Lee

Thanks guys! Actually, there's a fair amount of slop where the lever attaches, so it probably has something to do with it. I'll check that too, I'm picking the truck up later tonight. Well, I'm glad it appears adjustable, I was hoping I didn't have to get another cluster or something like that.
