thats funny. My wife got pulled over with me in the car. It 'happened' that the cop was a real jackass. She was composed, but on the verge of losing it, and i was just irritated because he was treating her like a 5 year old. I was sitting there and as soon as he got done with his high spiel and said "do you know why i pulled you over". It was ALL i could do to keep from saying "well, probably cause we were doing 63 in a 40 through your one horse town, but i figured you had a donut stuffed in your face and you missed it on the radar. Guess i was wrong, huh."
Afterwards, i figured i probably should have said it since he was going to write a ticket anyway. The wife was still upset, but i like to think of it as a 100 dollar fee for getting to speed all year. Somehow, she found comfort in that thought.

Well, being a guy that writes tickets, all I can say is that attitude is everything on my end. Yes, cops have a bad attitude more often than they should but it makes a difference on the other end too. An attitude can and sometimes does make a difference in the outcome of the situation. A warning can turn into a ticket based on an attitude. Not saying it's right or wrong but it happens. And I am not defending the actions of the cop you are speaking of because I wasn't there.
I know that 23 over in Maine is worth $215 so be thankful you didn't do it here.
My dad told me a story about one of his first "domestic disturbance" calls. It seems that this guy got drunk every weekend and often ended his day by beating up his wife. After making sure that she was OK and didn't want him arrested (this was a looooong time ago), Dad's partner told the man, "Next time we have to come here and you resist arrest, I am going to have to hurt you". The man said, "I don't resist". The cop replied, "You will next time .... I promise".
There is a local police department here that asks people that are resisting if they want to make a pit stop on the way to jail. When asked where the pit stop is, the cops reply, "the hospital." The same PD has an officer that tells people that want to fight him, "Don't let fear or the lack of ability stop you." It's a realy crappy town so I guess I can understand.

I only thought about saying it after the guy had already given a ticket. I was keeping my mouth shut in hopes it came out better. It was actually in a place where there is a 60 mph speed limit, and then about 40 ft later, a 40mph speed limit sign. The 60mph sign was one of those gigantic ones, and the 40mph sign was a little bitty one. Not that it makes an excuse, but i never even saw it or i would have told her to slow down. After all, several cars were flashing their lights, so we knew there was a cop somewhere. It was the tone of his voice and how he addressed her as if she was three years old. I have a very short fuse, so i was biting my tongue, he didnt fine her for having the wrong address on her license, so i guess thats something. The kicker is when they say "ok, have a nice day, and please drive safely through my town."
Yeah, ok, ill have a GREAT day (now go eff yourself and get that dam cruiser out of my way). He could have just said "ok, here's your ticket." and that would have been good.
I normally don't have an animosity towards officers, but sometimes they drive me crazy. I think of all the crazy international drivers, running into cars, over signs, drunk drivers, aggressive drivers....and then you ahve some cop sitting in his car behind a bush waiting for me to not get a 5,000 lbs truck slowed down to 40 in 50 ft trying to fulfill his quota on the town's one and only source of income. He could be out doing something more useful instead of writing a ticket to people that have spotless records. Unfortunately, i wasnt driving, usually when i flash the concealed handgun license, they relax and give warnings...USUALLY. Oh well.
Like always, well pay the court fee and 20 bucks, take "defensive driving" on the laptop while watching TV and do it all over in 365 days!
