Remote desktop options

I'm helping a freind setup a wireless home network. He'll have a laptop(win98) upstairs with a desktop downstairs(xp home)

He needs to access the computer downstairs via the laptop, Rermote desktop is out since he's using win98. Ive used vnc before, Is that what we should use? any other good cheapies out there?

What do you mean by "access".
If you mean running applications remotely, I suggest PC Anywhere. Server on one, client on the other.

If you just want to share files, printer, internet access, they will pretty much do that just by setting things up correctly.
