OK, I'm a newbie... but I STARTED today.
I'm trying to pull the flathead V8 and trany from my 53 F100.
Anyone have any sugestions on how to get the universal joint off so I can pull the engine?
I removed the spring clips, but beyond that I don't know what to do..
Steve,You take it off from the back at the axle end, then it just slides out of the trans.Take the four nuts off, and the two U-bolts,sometimes you have to pry it forward a little.Don,t let it fall on you hold it with one hand and put a pan under the trans some fluid will come out.Best of luck with it.
Swapping in a new driveshaft was the first thing I had to do to my 56. The original one flew out of it on the freeway coming home from buying it. Funny how my truck lets me know what it needs.
Had to change it on the street in front of the house...on a hill...no e-brake...
Now I can say that I know a lot about driveshafts. But I digress.
did you buy brand new or used? If its used did you have it balanced? Is it recommended to balance used driveshafts, and do the new driveshafts come with info as to weather or not they are balanced? I was just curious, because I'm getting mine balanced due to the fact of a vibration.
New and used factory driveshafts are already balanced, although it is possible for the weight to fall off. Sometimes shop built driveshafts are not, or not done correctly.
A vibration can also be caused by a U joint going bad.
Miami, you do not have your pm turned on so I can not send you a private message. I would like to invite you to look over the Northern California Chapter of FTE - we have several members who live near you. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum90/
Sometimes it is nice to have someone nearby who you can call on for a quick hand, or a look at a problem.
