ps hope this gets into the 61-66 forum. tried twice before and it went to the 67-79 forum.
Fordmach, Try the transmission section message board. And don't give up, there are plenty of parts available for these old trucks. Do an archive search for transmission or 4x4 and see what comes up. Also give us more information on your truck, especially the transmission (casting numbers, serial number). Try listing the parts you need on the Wanted classified ads.

If I read right, you need a replacement shift ****. Have you checked the threads on the shaft? If the shaft is good, fill the **** threads with JB Weld and put it back on the shifter. make sure to cover the threads on the shaft with a couple of wraps of teflon tape first or you'll never get the ball back off. Another alternative is to drill out the ball for a thread insert (Helicoil or similar).
Let us know how it turns out.
