I went to a junk yard today and found a 1966 Camper Special. All of the truck was pretty much still there. The truck had an automatic trans in it.All of the column was still there even the selector with the green dot. This is what got me wondering ,I opened the door and it had bucket seats in it with carpet over the tank-looked like RANGER stuff to me.I did not see any console though! Is this possible for a Camper Special to have a Ranger package too? Also I noticed the glove box had a factory light in ? Has anyone seen this before? The truck has a 352 in it with I guess a C-6.I am just curious about this truck?
There is no doubt in my mind that the camper special
could've been equipped w/ the Ranger package.
During that particular era in American motoring, people
would visit their local dealer and order what they WANTED.
If the vehicle wasn't available a "certain way" and IF
your particular dealer had a little bit of "clout",He could
"pull some strings" at the factory and they would make the switch.
Rusty, That is an interesting truck. The green dot would indicate the Cruse-O-Matic tranny that would be correct for that truck along with the 352. I wonder if the PO had been adding more parts along the way. Did you buy it and bring it home? How much was it?

John,I asked about the steering column and the man told me it was not his truck but a friend of his and he would have to check with him.The truck is in a junk yard!Have you ever seen one with a light in the glove box?I know I haven't.It also had dome light buttons in the door jams!It had Camper Special emblems on the fenders. The dash bezel had the extra gauges also. This truck just seemed like it had all extras!I guess i need to look at another real Ranger to see if the seats and bracketts are the real thing!
Rusty, I think there is 1 enterior shot of the 65 from Chimney Rock on our club site. I don't know if you can see enough to help. I think that the cargo light, and glove box light was added by the owner.

Eric, Rusty is too tight to buy it, come on down to western North Carolina and take it home with you. It needs a good home.

This one is right up my alley. The Ranger package was available with or without the center console. The gas tank cover was part of the base Ranger package. The fender emblems of the Camper Special overruled the Ranger Package in the placement on the fender. My opinion of this is that the Camper packages were MUCH more popular and would add more resale value, hence the value of the nameplate over the Ranger ones.. There were 3 different Camper Special packages available, Ranger trim was optional on all of them. The truck should have had stock carpet also, this was part of the base Ranger package. The dome light/door activated could be had as a dealer installed option, the holes were there fromt he factory, and it would be a simple add-on using stock Ford Full size car type activators. Glove box light was added on. I think there was a light package available on Camper Special package #3 (most expensive one) but I could not determine it's exact contents. By the way, I am looking to buy the center console to replace my damaged one, if you get the truck or can tell me who to contact. Email me if you have any info on this.
And some more trivia, if anything about our trucks is trivial:
The Merc Rangers apparently did not have the badge.
Pkg #3 added padded visors, chrome front bumper, body side mouldings and right-hand storage compartment.
My '66 has the beige interior. Is parchment the correct (Ranger bucket) seat colour for that interior?
This truck has the compartment on the bed side.It has a small brackett on each side where the cab corner starts on the inside next to the door jam!I haven't figured this one out either. It looks like they are to mount the carpet too????It also has an air conditioner under the dash with big compressor mounted on the 352!
Rusty, What will the man take for the truck, I think there is a couple of these ol boys that wants it, but they might not want to get off the money or drive to NC for it.
