I`m in need of front cab mounts for a 65 and have seen them
in the parts cataog .How big of a job am i geting into ?
My plans are to bead blast all the rust spots this spring
start the body work when the weather gets warmer .
there is a lot of rust around the cab mounts now and will proably
need to replace some of the metal around them depending on the size of the cab mount replacement .
Has any one found one type of metal easer to use than another?
i was thinking of fabracating them out of aluminum .
db&b, Replacing cab mounts is a huge job for amateurs. You will need advanced welding and metal fabrication skills since replacement floor pans are not available for these trucks. Carefully remove the old cab mounts and match them with the replacement mounts. Carefully saw out the floor pan, saving as much of it as possible. Take this to your local sheet metal shop and have them build one that is as close to the original as possible. Then Mig weld in the new floor pan and install the new cab mount with new rubber cab bushings. The cost for this is not huge, but it is a lot of work. Take pictures and let us know how it turns out. Honestly I would only do this if I had lots of time. Rust free or mostly rust free cabs are still available.

Uh William, They are most certainly available. I saw them last week at Carolina Classics. Rick and I were talking about them. He showed me how the new floor pans fitted and the cab mount to the pan.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
I ordered some and changed my plan when I saw that they were stamped from Honda-like tin. (I forget who the supplier was, sorry.) You might want to ask if the replacements you're considering are made of steel of the gauge used originally.
Eric
He didn't say what type of '65 - I know there are no floor pans for my '65 F350 (since it uses the '61-64 pan which isn't available). I only need the part from the rear edge of the cab mount to about 2" up the firewall. I'm planning to cut out a piece of a new '65-72 pan and cut, beat, and curse it into fitting. :-X23
Carolina Classics has the cab mounts for $125 a pair, which I was planning to use. Has anyone ordered these or seen them (are they heavy gauge or "Honda tin")?
Dennis Carpenter sells cab mounts made with original Ford tooling. They are an exact factory fit. The ones from Carolina Classics and others are not. They will work but are not as high of quality or fit as the ones from Carpenter. They are less $$$ though. The floor pans are available from many suppliers and the quality varies. I got lucky and got one off of Ebay last week that is made of factory guage steel and seems to fit real well. It was listed as a '73-'79 part. It has one decal that says it's for a '73-'79 and another that says '67-'79, but is identical to my '65 floor. I am trying to find out where the guy got it from so I can order the other side.
Carolina Classics has them. I would suggest that you call and talk to Rick, the owner. He can tell what guage they are made in. Like I posted earlier I saw the floor pans and cab mounts and the didn't look like a honda to me. The ones there are made to go over the existing ones. Rick can be reached at 800-598-4211. The man does not sell junk parts.

Most of the others are buying from either Carpenter or similar sources. I'll tell you this much, as a dealer of DC items, not all of it is great. MOST are, but as an example, I sell two lines of bumpers, one from DC and the other from another source. The DC's are dull in comparison and don't carry the 5 year warranty like my second source bumpers do.... plus the second source bumpers cost less!
Thank You John! I called Rick and you are correct. He has 18 gage floor pans for 65 and 66 F100s, costing about $110.00 a pair. Thank You!

We've got the pair for less and they are Dennis Carpenter Parts. These are good 18 gauge pans, sold several already.
John, next time you visit Carolina Classics, ask them to consider purchasing advertising on our site. Carolina Classics doesn't support this site in any fashion, unlike Auto Krafters and Mac's.
Let me try again and I'll be a little more direct....
I was trying to imply is that if CC is going to continue to get free referrals from our site they ought to pay for advertising. I really don't like shelling out a hefty mortgage payment each month for server bandwidth in order to continuously supply them with leads...... I know you're fond of them but they aren't paying our bills so why should we help pay theirs.....
Dennis Carpenter doesn't repackage anything they get from someone else. If its a Drake part, it says Drake. If its Trico, it says Trico. I've yet to sell anything labeled Carolina Classics. Also, most of the good sheet metal isn't made by either company --- I know as I'm by-passing and buying direct on some sheet metal.
I am getting ready to list cab mounts for a 65-66 on ebay. They are off a no rust california cab. I ended up buying a cab that needed less bump work. The floor pan still needs to be removed from one of them using a spot weld cutter. Let me know if your interested. I also have the roof panels just above the doors if yours are rotten.
