I'm swaping f250 5 leaf springs onto my f150. it has a 9 inch rear and a broken 4 leaf setup. i dont think my bolts are going to be long enough to fit the bigger springs. they are only about 9 3/4" now. the problem is the bolts need to be 1/2" bolt 3 1/4" spread and will need to be about 10 to 10 1/2" long . i can get 9/16" ubolts that long but i dont think they will fit easily with out some serious reaming but i cant find 1/2" bolts that long? Is there anyone who sell longer 1/2" bolts or do i need to find a new plate on top of the springs?
I'd just drill out the holes on your existing plates if that's the only fit issue. You should be able to do it with a good 3/8" drill motor and 9/16" bit with a cut-down shank (or better yet a drill press).
it wont work because the bolts will interfere with the springs i thought about that. unless the bolts were drilled toward the out side but thats not real fun either break out the carbide bits. I guess it can be done but i was hoping for an easy way out but that might be what i have to do. thx
A farm store called Rural King has a large selection of U bolts!! I would think most farm stores such as Tractor Supply Co. or Implement dealerships might have what you are looking for or maybe a 4 wheel drive shop.
