According to this, I cut the vent tube. However, he said that you don't have to cut the filler tube. Does anyone know why or have any opinions on this? TIA
I cut both when I did mine. Works great. I can fill the tank almost completely full until the automatic pump shutoff. After that I dribble the last 1/2 gallon in.
I cut both on mine , figured while the tank was down , might as well get them both. I honestly can't see the differance from before. Depending on the station , I can get 1 - 4 more gallons in after the 1st click.
I harpooned my tank after only 2 fillups!! Havint to milk those last 5 gallons in was a PITA. It is really easy to do just be sure you are almost out of gas so the tank will be light. After disconnecting the filler hose and vent hose, drop the tank a few inches and disconnect the fuel hoses (remember you have to have the tool to remove the spring connectors). After dropping the tank remove the sending unit and reach in there with a pvc cutter and clip it off leaving only about 1 inch of tube on the inside (at least thats how much I left!). You can cut the tube with a hack saw blade of something similar but you have to be really careful to clean it out and not leave any shavings, thats why a pvc cutter works so good. the reassemble in reverse order. Best, cheapest and easiest mod I have ever done. No need to cut the filler tube it does not extend into the tank.
I didn't cut the filler tube, no need to. as long as the vent is above the level of the fuel, the air can get out of the fuel tank, which is the problem with that the harpoon fixes.
I cut mine, too and it really makes filling the tank easier. When the pump cuts off, my tank is full! I did it at the same time as the pre-pump mod and changing the fuel line fittings so there is no air being sucked into the fuel lines. Easy and efficient mod to do, makes me feel lots better knowing I'm not sending air to my injectors.
