Shifter Removal
Anybody know how to get the T-18 Shifter out? I don't see any bolts, pins, screws etc holding the shifter in. I've tried tugging on it and still no go. I really don't want to pull the entire top plate off the transmission...but if i have to i will.

I'm not exactly sure if a t-18 is the same but on most the round plate that the surrounds the shifter pushes down and twists. It is the plate right around the shifter right at the trans. If you look on the side of the trans on the bulge you can see that there are set pins in it. Just put it in Neutral push down and turn ccw I believe, it may be cw but Im pretty sure it is ccw. They are a pita. It took me 30 mins last time to put mine back in, taking em out isnt so bad though.

On my 86 F-150 the base of the shifter under the boot is square and it just prys off. There is a plastic bushing inside it has little nubs on it that fits into indentations on both the shifter and the square shaft coming out of the transmission!!!

on a t-18 the round looking cap that's around where the shift lever goes into the top of the case just threads off. It's standard thread, get a pair of channel locks on it and it'll twist right out. Then grab the lever and give it a soild yank and it shoudl come right out.
