ive just installed a eldelbrock performer cam into a freshly rebuilt (bored over with new rings / pistons, turned crank and bearings, and cam and lifters) the sheet that came with the cam says to run the engine at 2000-2500RPM for the first 30mins, any one else think them rpms are alittle high for that amount of time?
I recently broke in a Lunati VooDoo hydraulic cam and let it run at 1,800-2,000 for 20 minutes. I would say that 2,000-2,500 is too high.
I would HIGHLY recomend that you use Rotella 15-40 oil for your cam break in. Cams need zinc during break in, and Rotella is one of the few oils that still has it.

I have always done break-in at 2000-2500 rpms changing the rpms every couple of minutes.
I called Lunati tech support for my new cam and they said 8 quarts of Shell Rotella 15W-40 at 2500-3000 RPM for a half hour. I've yet to do it (Sunday is the big day), but I'll let everyone know what happens.
