It sounds like I am out voted. I don't shoot often but I just had a bad feeling about it. It sounds like some of you have shot some pretty old ammo so you probably have experience with it. My ammo only hangs around teh house 1 year or less but ussually it's only a few days.

I have some ammo that I bought back in the early 80s and I wouldn't be scared to put it in the gun a shoot it anytime, but then again I don't shoot that gun very much, I would be lucky if I shot 2 boxes through it in 25 yrs, living in Iowa I don't have much need to hunt with a 338 win mag anymore and it's just too abusive to go out and shoot for fun. But I have a box of 40 yr old 22 just like that and I have shot it without problems, many, many times (this is actually military surplus stuff from when dad was in the NG and I was part of the rifle team) fire away and have fun, then replace the used with more and keep on shooting. Nice deal wish I could stumble upon stuff like that.
BTW a friend of mine had a 30-30 winchester and went shooting he shot the first round off and I had to see what the heck he was shooting, well it was an original winchester 30-30 with original semi smokeless powder rounds probably made around the turn of the century, rifle was made around the late 1800s (1898 is when we think his great grandfather bought it) Now that stuff I questioned but he shot 3 boxes of it without a misfire.

So this past monday I recived my new (to me) Remington Speedmaster 552 He got it back in like 71 or so. But my main question is what is the shelf life of ammo? He had the ammo for atleast 25 years. Im not the most knowledgable when it comes to ammo so any info/advise would be greatly appreciated. Ill post pics of the gun in a little bit, if anyones intrested in seeing it.

I bought my first Speedmaster 552 back in 1972. To be a .22 semi , that gun was extremely accurate. I could slow fire 20 CCI mini mag LRHP at 25 fire yards and cover all twenty holes in the paper target with little less than a quarter. I traded it for boot on a S&W Model 29 -8/38 barrel and wished I hadnt. Picked up another like new one in 1974 and dang if it didnt shoot as well as my first. Have fun, you have a gem there. .
