Question 90 efi 351w to 85 351w swap

I have a 1990 bronco with a efi 351w. I just purchased it for 200.00 from a guy I know. There is something wrong with the transmission. When you put it in gear it will only engage if I let the engine idle low. Anyway, I also have a 85 f-150 2wd that also has a 351w but it is carborated. Can I swap the 351w from my bronco into my f-150. I realize the entire fuel system will have to be outfitted to the 150 as well but I want to be sure the blocks will swap before I commit. Is there a difference in the transmissions due to the transfer case? Perhaps the tranny's will swap as well? I'm mechanically inclined and confident I can perform the swap but I'm not a veteran ford man and simply need an anwser to what the differences are in the two and if I can interchange them.

All the EFI stuff will switch over, same for the carb stuff. From the sounds of it though, your problem is with the tranny, not the engine. Unfortunately 4x4 and 2wd trannies are not interchangeable.

Thumbs up 90 351 to 85 351

Thanks for the information about swapping out the engines. I took a look at the tranny fluid to see if it would show me any clues(like engine oil) and I was confused by what I saw. It looks like motor oil. Also I took it for a idle around the block to bring it to temp, and the dip stick was so hot I couldn't hold on to the stick for more than a couple seconds. Anyway, I just want to get one of the two vehicles running for now so, I'll go with the engine swap. Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.

i would really suggest not going thru all that trouble and just locate a used tranny for the bronco. not sure were you live but winter is coming and 4wd would be nice.
