Thumbs up Thanks and a question about an intercooler

wanted to thank you guys for all the info in this forum.

it has been very informative.
BY using the search, I have learned quite a bit about my diesel and its problems and what needs to be done next.

Although I don't like this truck, as the saying goes... I'm in too deep to get out now - lol

I do have a question tho,,

is it possible, feasible, and how would one, put an intercooler on it?
It has the Banks sidewinder on it. 4in exhaust 7.3L

Thanks again

EDIT: Retracted earlier edit

The tech at Banks told me that an intercooler on an older IDI with an add on turbo would not make any noticeable increase.... I'm not sure that is true or if he just meant that if you simply bolt on a banks turbo with no other modifications.....

BUZZer67,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

It is possible to install an intercooler, the kits are rather expensive and will probably need some modification depending on the year of your truck.

If you are running stock boost levels the return from the intercooler would probably make it hard to justify the expense.

Banks, ATS and Hypermax all have intercooler kits that are in the 1000 dollar neighborhood.

yeah,, but I was kinda wonderin' if anyone had done something more custom (read:cheap )

and Dave you have some good pictures of components -it helped me identify some things

92 Ford F-250 XLT 7.3L Banks Sidewinder
2000 RPM=about 73 MPH
and about 600 exhaust temp
and about 6 or 7 PSI boost

Has anyone installed a water injection system?? I have read it does not in any way replace an intercooler but for the cost and labour of the the two, it lowers the EGT's and is a viable alternative.

Here is a picture of an intercooler going on a 92 that I downloaded when I was doing research on installing one on mine. I have internal engine mods and am running head studs with 20 PSI of boost on my 6.9.

The plumbing is a bit of a nighmare, but it can be done.

I found taking pictures was easier than trying to explain a lot of things, glad you liked them and they helped you. I have more I need to put captions on and upload, but I have been way to busy at work.

Here is a shot of the top of the engine plumbing.
I seem to recall this was a Banks kit.
