I just completed my first fuel filter change on my 05 F250 4x4. I used the instructions from this site. Everything went very smooth I only drained out about two cups of fuel there we're no messes or any problems. I did pour in some stanadyne in the secondary housing as per the instructions, I assume this helps with repriming the system. I didn't bother jacking up the drivers side front axle as it didn't seem to be any help. I purchased the filters from the Powerstroke Shop and saved a ton of money compared to the dealer. My dealer wanted over $190.00 to change my filters so the total savings was quite large. The savings was enough for me to get another torque wrench! which is a good thing. Thanks to the F.T.E. website and all of the users who shared all thier info. weather good or bad.
Ironically I just completed my first change on my friends '03 last night as well. Unfortunately it didn't go as well. Everything went fine. Finished up and started the motor. We let it Idle for about 10 min and it sounded perfectly normal. Shut it down for about an hour so we could install his headache rack and toolbox. He started it back up so he could leave and it was running a little rougher than normal. Then it almost stalled and he shut the key off. After that we couldn't get it started again. Just cranks and will seem to start for a sec...but then not. Any Ideas on what to do would be very apreciated!

Thanks,
What brand of fuel filter did you use and where did you buy it?
You have air in the system... either an improperly installed filter, a filter which does not fit correctly, the cap on either filter housing is not on straight and on all the way (check the large HFCM filter which is normally the cause) or the O-ring for either filter is not lines up 100%.
That should be it.... but some aftermarket fuel filters do not fit 100% as OEM ones do... and buying them from your local int'l dealer is the least expensive too.
I feel worse cause it's not my truck. I'm pretty proficient with gas vehicles...this is the first diesel i've done work on. He's driving my '76 GMC today and truck is sitting in my driveway. Hopefully I can get home this afternoon and re-doing the filter on the HFCM/making sure it's seated better will fix it. Makes me not want to buy a diesel...haha.
