I think they ought to sell them through LM dealers. An AM would look good with a set of wire wheel covers, whitewalls, and a vinyl top with the convertible bows under it, and the tops of the doors covered too where they cut into the roof....
The AMV8 here has the order books filled till the end of next year - and if the Rapide makes it into production they will be well past Ferrari & Maserati combined sales levels.
I'm hoping the Rapide makes it into production- that car gets my vote for the prettiest four-door on the planet.
Jerry (our dealer) just got a DB9. Odd to see a car like that in Sandy, Oregon.
That dang thing is flat stunning. Pretty funny seeing him blasting down the road in the thing, though- Marboro hanging out of his mouth, dog in the passenger seat. Gotta love rich rednecks.
Have you stood on the side of the road when he gives it some stick?
That V12 engine sounds glorious - we had one hammer around the test loop here, I couldn't quit drooling.
Which is wierd, because the engine it is based on (the 3.0l engine out of the taurus) sounds like a bucket of bolts.
I don't even like cars, only owned one and will probably never own another, but I did get the chance to drive a DB7. . . And it scared the hell out of me. I now believe I know what it must feel like when fighter pilots get launched off of the deck of a carrier or the shuttle crew lifts off. Hopefully FMC won't sell them, but, business is business. Unfortunately, I've heard an investment group is looking to buy Aston. So much for quality engineering if that happens.
If AM isn't going to turn a massive profit, sell it off. Bling toys for coke dealers aren't enough to rescue Ford.
"Hopefully FMC won't sell them"
Why? Precisely what reason to care is there?
Because sometimes in life things aren't done JUST for business - but for passion.
They aren't just a "form of transport", AM's are a piece of modern art, a thing of rarefied beauty and workmanship...
Its like asking, why buy expensive steak, when I know I can survive just as well on cheap cuts of meat... well bugger it, because I want to. This is coming from a man that almost shed tears when I found out Ford sold Cosworth

AM makes money, even on the 5000ish cars it sells per year.
Jag-u-ar? Heh, I don't believe they've made a dime of profit in ANY year since Ford bought them in 1994 or thereabouts.
Supposedly, HyundaiKia is looking at a luxo line. There's someone who could take on Jag-u-ar.
I'm hearing whispers of a package deal. Jaguar is the albatross, AM and Land Rover the offset. Right now, almost anything to make Jaguar go away would make me smile. Not only is that division a monetary black-hole, but they are sucking resources and focus from the Lincoln Mercury Group. My own opinion, mind you.
There are those who say Mercury should go..... don't know the numbers, but really, what is the point? It's not like Mercury is to Ford as Acura, Lexus or Infinity are to their parent brands...
I don't know - I still believe Jaguar isn't just a good car manufacturer, they are a viable business proposistion.
And I reckon L-M could have done quite well with the aformentioned 20billion - but I also reckon that they (as brands) will never be as equitable the leaping cat in a global sense...
I suppose it comes down to whether you are willing to (and have the resources too) ride it out, and get the benefits from the hard work (and money) you have put into the company - or whether you think that there is nothing to gain from having the brand.
I honestly believe that if they sell Jaguar, Ford itself will struggle, as it won't have a brand where it can do the R&D for evolutionary platform sharing - which will be required to cut thier production costs.
As a counter-point (and this is one of the few things we've ever disagreed on), what possible platforms could Jaguar share? They'll either be too expensive to share over here, or limit Jaguars sales over there. I guess I could be a tad more objective if I actually liked the brand, or understood the attraction. They've just been on my chitt-list for a looong time. I can grudgingly give a nod to Land Rover, drool over Aston Martin..... but they haven't made a Jaguar in decades that I could actually even remotely consider owning.
I see Nassar is the head of the lead group trying to buy Jaguar- highly ironic, considering he was the guy that convinced Ford Management they needed the brand. My take- let him have it..... and hope the door smacks him on the butt on the way out.
