Smile Intercooler Decision - Help me out

Spearco 6.0 CAC is $1500
Banks 6.0 Techni-Cooler is $1165
Hypermax CAC is $1775
Diesel Innovations CAC is $1150

The stock 6.0 CAC is not an option, I'm looking for a little bigger for lower EGTs and more flow. What are your expriences and opinions?

the DI IC is a very nice piece. It keeps my 550 hp under 1600* in the 1/4 mile. Towing ive never had to back out of throttle, even on the 100+* days towing 20-24k gross weight.

no it uses stock ic pipes. i remember david mentioning in chat one night that he was sending 2 new boots, but mine didnt come with any. you will just have to call him and ask i guess. I wasnt really worried about it since i had just bought all new boots anyway.

Hey Rampage,
I have seen and compared all of these products, and while all of them are very, very nice, I believe the Spearco and Max's to be the very best. I believe you can still get the Spearcos for around 1100 bucks if you shop.

Save the money for the 6.0 and go with the 7.3 replacement Spearco. Unless your going huge hp the standard replacement is plenty.

how ironic. yes i got it, however i was going to send you a PM before i went to bed tonight. im heading there now.

anyway thanks for the thought, it came fast enough. however the one i was looking for is the one that is 6-7-8-9" in diameter that seals the compressor housing to the backplate. the one you sent is about 4 keyboard keys wide, and im sure i can use it, however it isn't the one i needed. thanks anyway.

I am very, very pleased with the performance of my Spearco, same as what mech is running. Dropped my overall EGT's by about 100-150 over the 6.0 IC I had in there. Plus, the turbo spools up quicker. And, as you can see by what mech runs, it is quite capable of high HP applications. Email Bunting (Black Widow Diesel) to see if he can do you any better on pricing.

Kris, PM me your address and I'll have that o-ring in the mail for you tomorrow.

Sorry Kris, I must have misunderstood what you wanted.
Jeremy, would be interesting how low he will go. Thanks.

My new Spearco Intercooler has been ordered. I guess my patience and procrastination paid off, blackwidowdiesel.com put their Spearco intercoolers on sale from $1500 to $1200 delivered. With 150-225 degree in EGT reduction being the norm, combined with more air flow and faster turbo spool, I feel it was a wise investment and will compliment my current and any future mods to come.

So if you were to add the 100 degree EGT reduction that I got from my van turbo, that's 250-325 in lower EGTs while towing!! In theory as least, but we'll see.

Here's some comparison shots of a few IC's. Stock 7.3, stock 6.0, and the Spearco 7.3: http://community.webshots.com/album/551854405

By the way, I did some checking of the air temps post intercooler a couple days ago using the AE software. It was about 80 degrees outside, air intake temp at the filter was about 93 degrees. The air going into the engine while cruising around at 5-10 psi of boost was right at 93 degrees. Even when boost ramped up to 20 psi or more, the temps would stay right around 100 degrees, and the highest I saw was 108 degrees after about a 10-15 second run at full throttle. Bottom line, the Spearco IC works.
