starter kept running this morn. ignition?
i put the key to off and acc. and it still kept going. i slammed the key to full on and it finally stopped, then started normally a few minutes later. half a dozen starts since then and no problems.
anyone ever have this prob?. i have a light touch and i'm hoping i just hit a bad spot in my ignition but i'm guessing its going.
how tough to get into the colum for replacement if needed?. i have cruise control. would contact cleaner help?.
i'm planning a long trip in a few weeks. if the problem doesn't happen again i'll leave it be. i'm wondering if i should replace or bring some parts and a steering wheel puller with me.
any advise would be welcome.

the starter didnt stick but she ran like she was on 6 cyl on start up. bucking like mad and making a loud knock or two from the starter. i gave it gas and it leveled right out and ran fine. then started twice with no problems. it seems to happen when cold.
what i found out is the solenoid could be bad. in some post folks claim they're 2 of them. one on the firewall and one on the starter.
most seemed to be fixed with a new starter if all elsed fails. something about a plunger sticking?.
i'm told i can test the voltage from the relay to the starter and be able to tell if the issue is in the colum.
i'm leaning towards the starter. i'll i'll disconnect it and listen for the relay clicking on and off, to see if its sticking.
since its intermitant and worse when cold i'll check my battery cons and grounds.
i lost the plastic splash gaurd that protects that side of the engine a few months ago.
i'm thinking maybe of replacing it before a saltly new york winter starts.
i'm gonna see what she does tommorrow and get underneather her. sure enough this starts on labor day weekend. so if u have any ideas that may save me time and cash, please chime in.
all the pistons inside the barillet where almost gone by the friction of the key, you imagine how many times this key when into the slot in 16 years....
