I have a 97 2.3 with 113,000 miles on it. At 90 k I did a full tune-up including motorcraft plugs, wires, new pcv, changed out the timing belt, and fuel filter. I have been religious about changing the oil every 3,000( I bought her with 47,000 miles.). I just completed a cross country trip, and she ran fine and doesn't burn a drop of oil, but now it just seems to feel lethargic and sluggish. Any thoughts?
I am having the clutch replaced tomorrow--she's due.
I have a '97 with 40,000 miles on it and mine has always been that way.I never considered anything to be wrong with it.I just think it's the "nature of the beast".GOOD TRUCK!!
They are fairly slow, but if it suddenly became more sluggish, then I would agree that something is wrong. The front brakes on mine were dragging at one point, and that obviously made it pretty sluggish- you might check to make sure there isn't something like that wrong before you start diagnosing the engine...
Also, mine becomes sluggish when the fan engauges after sitting in traffic. Check to make sure your fan clutch isn't malfunctioning. It should be easy to turn with the engine off and cold. You'd probably hear the fan, my sounds like a jet plane over 2500rpm when it is engauged.
