I just installed my new AFE Pro Guard 7 Air Filter kit. What a difference! I can really hear the turbo spool up now and the engine winds up much higher before crapping out. I called AFE to ask how often the element needs to be cleaned and re-oiled and they told me at least every 30,000 miles! Is this wishful thinking? Anybody have any experience with this filter? Short of fabricating my own or doing a Tymar, this seemed to be the only kit available for my year. I really liked having the hot air dam between the filter and the hot engine compartment air, the closest to the stock cool air intake that I found. I paid $180.00 from a sponser on here.
We get this response all the time after folks install one!! That could be an accurate cleaning interval, but then again maybe not. It really depends on where you live and the enviroment etc. I usually do mine at 10,000 no matter what just to be sure.
Thanks Mark, I guess I'll just wait and see. I do live in the desert and make frequent trips to Arizona, out in the country. My stocker was plugged after 5000 miles, but this has alot more surface area it seems.
When I decided to buy the Pro Guard 7, it was because I thought it had a pre-filter on it, it does not. I guess the difference between the Pro Guard 7 and the regular element is the material used. They are both the same price though...?? Do they make a foam pre-filter that will slip over this element, or would I have to custom make one?
The standard media is nothing like the PG7, it's far superior at filtering. The costs is usually 25-35.00 different too. Most of the standrad media kits we sell use the pre filter, but not usually the PG7 unless bugs are a problem, the pre filter keeps them off the filter pleats etc.
